May 30 - Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day, which officially honors the men and women who died while serving the American military.  Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.  Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.  (source www.history.com./topics/memorial-day-history)

I want to take a moment to thank those men and women who died while protecting the freedoms that I enjoy.

Unofficially, Memorial Day is also a day to reflect on those loved ones who have passed on.  I am grateful for the history of both the Welch and the Bates family!
